Role of specialised databases in research writing

Therefore specialized databases are indexes that can be searched, much like the search engines. The main difference is that specialized databases are collection on particular subjects, such as medical journals articles, abstracts and citations, company financial data, united States supreme court decision, census data, patents, and so forth. You can find information in specialized databases that you often would not locate by using a global www search engine. If you know there is a specialised database on the subject you are researching, using that database can save you time and give you reliable, up to date information. According to Ukoha M.U & Nwachukwu I.C (2010) research is a careful search and systematic investigation towards increasing knowledge in an area and so, research writing can be said  to be writing down or recording or documentation of a research carried out.
An alternative concept in database design is known as “Hypertext”. In a hypertext DB, any object, whether it is a piece of text, a picture, or a film, can be linked to any other object. Hypertext databases are particularly useful for organizing large amount of desperate information, but they are not designed for numerical analysis. To access information from a database, you need a database management system.
This is a collection of programs that enables you to enter, organize, and select data in a database.

Encyclopedia is important sources to consider when initially researching a topic. General encyclopedia provides basic information on a wide range of subjects in an easily readable and understandable format. If you are certain about what subject area you want to choose your topic from you, might want to use a specialised or subject encyclopedia instead. Subject encyclopedias limit their scope to one particular field of study, offering more detailed information about the subject. And also specialised databases contain some of the most scholarly information available i.e., resources valuable for research and in assignments. Specialised database also enables you to search for information in the format you need, or within a specific subject area. It the format you need, or within a specific subject area. It also makes it easier to find material that is not available for free on the open web
